Penticton Pistoleras Host 2nd Annual “Smack! In the Middle of BC” Roller Derby Tournament

Who’s ready for some derby? That’s correct, the 2nd Annual “Smack! In the Middle of BC” roller derby tournament is coming to Armstrong on February 24-25, 2024 at Hassen Arena. The Penticton Pistoleras and South Okanagan Roller Derby Association will be hosting 7 other teams from across BC, Saskatchewan and Washington state for some hard hitting, fast paced roller derby action!

Roller derby is an all gender, high-intensity contact sport played on roller skates. It emerged as a thrilling and empowering avenue for athletes around the world. The sport's popularity has grown steadily, with roller derby tournaments becoming marquee events that showcase the sheer athleticism, determination, and camaraderie of its participants.

“Smack! In the Middle of BC” will foster a vibrant and welcoming community that extends far beyond the track. Despite the fierce competition, participants demonstrate solidarity and respect towards opponents. The camaraderie among athletes, coaches, officials, and spectators is immense, uniting people from diverse backgrounds under the umbrella of the shared passion for the sport.

This tournament will also contribute to creating opportunities for networking, encouraging friendships and connections across teams and regions. Roller derby community’s collaborative efforts emphasize transparency and inclusivity as core values.

The Penticton Pistoleras are pleased to welcome the following teams to Armstrong: Okanagan Roller Derby from Kelowna BC, Terminal City Roller Derby from Vancouver, BC, the Greater Vancouver Roller Derby Association from Surrey, BC, the Rated PG Thrashers from Prince George, BC, The Northern Pikes from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Avalanche City Roller Derby from Fernie, BC and the Puget Sound Castaways from Seattle, Washington. 

First whistle is at 9am on February 24 with the final at 3pm on February 25. All games will be played at Hassen Arena in Armstrong 3315 Pleasant Valley Rd. Entry fees are $10 for the day or $15 for the weekend. Kids under 10 are free.
